Before you leave the airport: visas
Transit without a visa only applies if you stay airside. Australian Home Affairs says anyone leaving the airport needs a valid visa or ETA for Australia. Please check your entry requirements before booking a layover tour.
How much time do you need?
- The airport to the CBD is about a 20-minute ride.
- Sydney Airport recommends arriving 3 hours before an international departure.
- Allow time for immigration and customs on arrival.
- So a layover of around 8 hours or more gives a comfortable few hours of sightseeing. Tell us your times and we'll tell you honestly what fits.

Smarte Carte baggage storage is at T1 International Arrivals (Exit A), open 7am to 8pm. You can also keep your bags in the car with us during the tour.
