Where the Overseas Passenger Terminal is
The OPT is on Circular Quay West in The Rocks, directly opposite the Sydney Opera House. Large ships that can't pass under the Harbour Bridge berth here, while smaller ships often use White Bay Cruise Terminal in Rozelle. Check your cruise documents before you book; the two are quite different trips.
Circular Quay has trains, ferries and light rail nearby, but with cruise luggage the walk through the Quay crowds and up the stairs isn't fun. A car drops you at the terminal itself.
Sydney Airport to Circular Quay cruise terminal
The drive from Sydney Airport to the OPT is usually 25 to 40 minutes, typically via Southern Cross Drive and the Eastern Distributor into the city. Traffic around The Rocks and George Street can be slow on ship days, and our drivers know the approach to the terminal.
We track your flight and meet you in arrivals. If you have arrived early, many passengers drop bags at the terminal and explore The Rocks before boarding. Our Circular Quay airport transfers page has more on the route, and the fare table for it.
Why book ahead rather than take a rank taxi
Rank taxis do serve Circular Quay, but on a ship day the queue can stretch a long way while cars fight through city traffic to reach it. Pre-booking means a confirmed car, a fixed fare and a driver who will help with the cases. It also means the right vehicle: a family of five with cruise luggage needs an SUV or maxi, which you can't guarantee from a rank. Book online or call 0434 663 034.

From the OPT to the airport, hotels or home
On disembarkation day, thousands of passengers come off the ship within a few hours. Taxi queues build quickly and cars struggle to get into the Quay. A pre-booked pickup avoids both. Tell us the ship, your expected disembarkation time and any flight, and we will set a pickup that leaves margin for luggage collection and traffic.
From the OPT we commonly drive to T1 International and T2/T3 Domestic, to city hotels, or further afield to the North Shore, the Hills District, Wollongong or the Central Coast.
Pre-cruise and post-cruise extras
Turning a cruise into a longer stay? We can combine your transfer with a private Sydney city tour on the day you disembark, with luggage kept safely in the car, before dropping you at your hotel or the airport. It's a good use of a day when your flight isn't until the evening.
Families and groups at the OPT
A family of five with cruise luggage won't fit in a standard cab. Book a maxi taxi for up to 6 or 11 passengers. Baby capsules, forward-facing seats and boosters cost A$10 per seat and are fitted before pickup.
Embarkation day tips for the OPT
- Arrive within your boarding window; turning up hours early just means waiting with your bags.
- Attach the cruise line's luggage tags before pickup.
- Keep passports, boarding passes and medication in your hand luggage.
- Allow for city traffic: The Rocks and the Cahill Expressway approaches can be slow on busy mornings and when events are on at the Opera House.
- Big group? Book one maxi van rather than several taxis, so you all arrive together.
Transfers to the OPT from across Sydney
We bring cruise passengers to Circular Quay from every part of Sydney: CBD and Darling Harbour hotels just minutes away, the North Shore over the Harbour Bridge, the Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta and the Hills District, the Sutherland Shire and south-west Sydney. Regional passengers from Newcastle, the Central Coast, the Hunter Valley, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains often book a private car to avoid changing trains with luggage. The OPT and Circular Quay on a ship day
When a large ship is in, Circular Quay is busy from early morning: ferry commuters, tour groups, Opera House visitors and thousands of cruise passengers all in the same few blocks. Private vehicles use the terminal's designated drop-off and pick-up arrangements, which can change on busy days. Our drivers know the area and will meet you at the agreed point, so you aren't dragging cases along the Quay looking for your car.
Fares and booking
We quote one fixed fare for the car before you book, based on distance and vehicle. Airport pickups include the A$12 airport access and toll charge. See our main cruise transfers page for more, then book online or call or WhatsApp 0434 663 034.
