Royal Randwick race day taxi: Ascot Street drop-off, Alison Road pickup
Royal Randwick is at 77-97 Alison Road, Randwick, about 6 km from the CBD and 8 km from Sydney Airport according to the Australian Turf Club. The rules for vehicles are specific:
- Hire cars: the club's FAQ says drop-off is via the Ascot Street entrance, and collection is only via Alison Road after 3pm.
- Taxis: taxi entry is via the Ascot Street entrance, where there is a secure taxi rank.
- No stopping: on big days, Transport for NSW says taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue outside the designated areas.
On Everest Day 2026, Transport for NSW also listed drop-off areas on Darley Road, Bowral Street and the bus plaza on Alison Road. We follow the published plan for your meeting, and your chauffeur confirms the collection point with you before the last race.
Royal Randwick racecourse transfers for the big carnivals
Royal Randwick comes alive for The Championships in autumn and the Sydney Everest Carnival in spring, with race days through much of the year. Carnival days are when a booked car matters most. The roads around the racecourse are busy, the light rail is full and everyone leaves at roughly the same time.
We suggest arriving 30 to 45 minutes before your first race of interest, so you are through the gates and settled. Heels, fascinators and suits travel better in a car than a crowded tram. See our race day transfers page for how we run racing days across Sydney.

Group and marquee transfers to Royal Randwick
A group of friends, a hens party or a corporate marquee works best in one or two vehicles. A Maxi 7 fits six racegoers and a Maxi 11 fits eleven. If you need several cars for a company group, we schedule them together and can split the return so early leavers are not stuck waiting for the last race. Note that we do not run stretch limousines, which the club also keeps out of the taxi rank and main drive on race days.
Base fares are A$70 for a sedan, A$80 for an SUV, A$90 for a Maxi 7 and A$110 for a Maxi 11 on short trips, with longer trips priced on distance, always as a fixed total.
Light rail or a private car to the races
The L2 Randwick light rail stops at Royal Randwick on Alison Road, opposite the main entrance, and the L3 Kingsford line stops at Kensington, a short walk from the Ascot Street entry. Extra services run on major days. If you are one or two people near the light rail, that works.
A car makes more sense if you are coming from the north, west or south of Sydney, travelling as a group, celebrating, or simply do not want to stand in a queue in race-day shoes after the last. A fixed fare also means nobody has to drive home after a day in the members' bar.
Flying in for the races
Interstate and overseas visitors often fly in on race morning or the day before. From T1 International the racecourse is about 13 km by road, typically 20 to 30 minutes off-peak via Southern Cross Drive. Your chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you in arrivals and can stop at your hotel first. Airport pickups include the A$12 airport access charge. If you are staying locally, our Randwick airport transfers page has the fare table for the airport legs.
