Getting into The Rocks by car
From the airport we usually take Southern Cross Drive and the Eastern Distributor, then head towards the Harbour Bridge approaches and down into The Rocks. A few local details make the last stretch slower than the kilometres suggest:
- Weekend markets: parts of George Street and Playfair Street are busy with stalls and pedestrians on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Cruise days: when a ship is at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, traffic backs up along Hickson Road and Circular Quay West.
- Narrow lanes: many of the heritage streets are one-way or have very little kerb space, so your driver will choose the closest safe spot to your hotel's door.

Hotels and places we drop off in The Rocks
Most of our trips here go to the harbourside hotels around Cumberland Street, George Street and Hickson Road, from large five-star properties with Opera House views to small boutique hotels in restored warehouses. We also drop off at the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb and Observatory Hill, at Campbell's Cove, and at Walsh Bay further along Hickson Road for the theatres and wharves.
If your hotel is closer to the ferries, see our Circular Quay transfers page.
